How to Clear Oracle Smart View for Office Cookies

How to Clear Oracle Smart View for Office Cookies (Step-by-Step Guide)

As an Oracle EPM Administrator, we work closely with EPM business users across Planning, Forecasting, and Financial Close. One of the most common challenges we see—across EPBCS, FCCS, and other EPM modules—is Smart View–related login and data retrieval issues.

From our experience, following a simple 5-minute cleanup once a month can help users avoid many Smart View issues when retrieving or submitting data.

This article explains when and how to clear Oracle Smart View cookies and, if required, WebView2 cookies, using a step-by-step approach.

Why Smart View Issues Occur

If you work with Oracle Smart View for Office, you may occasionally face login or connectivity issues—especially after using Disconnect All and restarting Smart View.

A common symptom is:

  • Smart View does not prompt for login credentials, or

  • Sessions appear to be reused or stuck

In most cases, this behavior is caused by cached cookies and browser data used by Smart View for authentication.

When Should You Clear Smart View Cookies?

You should consider clearing cookies when:

  • Smart View does not prompt for credentials after restart

  • Login sessions appear stuck or reused

  • You recently switched environments (Prod / Test / Dev)

  • Smart View behaves inconsistently after patches or upgrades

Clearing cookies resets the underlying browser cache used by Smart View and enables a clean and fresh sign-in.

Steps to Clear Oracle Smart View Cookies

1. Close All Office Applications

Make sure Excel, Word, Outlook, and all other Office applications are completely closed.

2. Open Internet Options

You can open Internet Options using either method:

  • Open Windows Command Prompt and type:

  • inetcpl.cpl

  • Or navigate to Windows Control Panel → Internet Options

3. Open Website Data Settings

  • In the General tab, click Settings

  • The Website Data Settings dialog will open

4. (Optional but Recommended) Update Cache Settings

In the Temporary Internet Files tab:

  • Under Check for newer versions of stored pages, select
Every time I visit the webpage

This ensures Smart View always loads the most recent content.

5. View Temporary Internet Files

  • In the Temporary Internet Files tab, click View files

  • File Explorer opens at:

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache

6. Delete Cache Files

  • Delete all contents inside the INetCache folder

7. Close Internet Options

  • Click OK to close Website Data Settings

  • Click OK again to close Internet Options

8. Restart Office and Log In

  • Open Excel

  • Select your Smart View data provider

  • Enter your login credentials when prompted

Still Facing Issues? Clear WebView2 Cookies

If Smart View issues persist, you may need to clear Microsoft WebView2 cookies, which Smart View uses for authentication in newer versions.

Steps to Clear WebView2 Cookies

1. Close All Office Applications

Ensure all Office applications are closed.

2. Navigate to the WebView Folder

Open File Explorer and go to:

%AppData%\Oracle\SmartView\WebView

3. Delete WebView Cache

  • Delete all contents inside the WebView folder

Important Note:
On Windows Server operating systems, also clear:

  • The WebView folder

  • Any other folders under %AppData%\Oracle\SmartView that start with WebView

4. Restart Office and Log In

  • Open Excel

  • Select the Smart View data provider

  • Log in when prompted

Final Thoughts

Clearing Smart View and WebView2 cookies is a simple yet highly effective way to resolve many Oracle EPM Smart View login, session, and performance issues.

We strongly recommend EPM users follow this once a month as a best practice—before reinstalling Smart View or escalating to support.
